Recommended (featured in helloAISearch terms) means the engine named you in the first quarter of the answer, in a position that reads as the lead pick: first bullet, “options include”, start of a sentence. Mentioned means you appear later or in passing. The difference is the difference between being the answer and being a footnote.
A word-list heuristic over the sentences around your name: warm words (reliable, recommended, well-suited) versus caveats (expensive, limited, lacks). It is labelled as a heuristic and is there to flag an answer that names you with a “but”.
Read who was recommended instead and why. The usual fix is a page that answers exactly that question with your brand in the opening sentence, then a comparison page against the brand that won. Track the prompt afterwards to see whether the engine changed its mind.
